A quarter century after a middle-aged Ernest Hemingway uttered these lines I found myself, fresh out of college, alone and broke in Paris (not unlike the young Mr. Hemingway 50 years earlier). That first madcap introduction left me hopelessly and irretrievably hooked on The City of Light. In the intervening 44 years and 36 return visits Paris has indeed stayed with me, holding me and taunting me with all that I have yet to discover.
Over the years as friends became aware of my interest and knowledge of Paris they began asking me to help plan and eventually to host their trips to the French Capital and various spots on the Continent. Thus was born what has become my vocation and passion: sharing Europe in general and Paris in particular; its culture, history and joie-de-vivre.
The goal of A MOVEABLE FEAST is to share the Paris experience in print and in person. This web site is the “print” portion of that undertaking. To share it “in person” we conduct several events each year. We invite you to join us in Paris to actually see the sights, sit in the cafés, stroll the boulevards and soak up the charm and romance that this city exudes. Each visit is designed as a luxurious weeklong escape providing you with upscale accommodation and an arsenal of travel tools to facilitate and maximize your experience. The choices are yours each day and we remain available to act as your personal concierge providing tips, recommendations and assistance with reservations and, if so desired, to act as city tour guides.
More than just a moveable feast, Paris is also a moving target. Keeping up with its constantly evolving trends and fashions is a full-time job. Just monitoring the restaurant scene is a daunting task, but one I relish. Through our research we’ll endeavor to keep you current on developments in art, culture, food and lodgings. We’ll also add a sprinkling of historical footnotes and anecdotes to enhance your overall appreciation of this world-class city and its many contributions that have helped shape the course of Western culture.
I am blessed to have found a kindred spirit in my wife, Debbie. A longtime Pan Am Airline employee, Debbie has always had the travel bug and together we live and lust for the next adventure in the City of Light. I’m the history buff and logistics guru and Debbie is the shopper, social chairman and the glue that binds us to all our travel companions.
We hope you will join us in person for the next Moveable Feast and follow our ongoing love affair with Paris though this web site.
